Kane County Issues
Local Control
What works for Grant County or metro Salt Lake City doesn’t necessarily apply to our rural community and local economics. Working collaboratively, we need to proactively protect our way of life and assure we retain local control. A super-majority of State Legislators must not be allowed to sell-out local interests or override community sentiment. Whether it’s the non-viable “preliminary incorporation” of Willow or incompatible land use for large-scale data centers or detention facilities, elected local leaders must anticipate and act on foreseeable threats.

Bo’s Approach
- Leverage local officials & organizations in unified all-hands approach applied with appropriate level of urgency
- Fortify interactions with allied entities (such as adjacent Counties NGOs)
- Direct intervention with both project sponsors and state officials
Water
We live in a desert. Even if we didn’t, we must recognize that water is a precious commodity across the West and treat it accordingly. Entire towns and regions have been wiped out by drought and/or poor use of available water resources. Awareness and voluntary efforts to improve water efficiency in our homes, farms and businesses is the least disruptive way to address the issue in our everyday lives.
Qualifications on this Issue
- Implementing rain harvest pilot project on personal property
- Corporate consultant
- Marketing & advocacy background
Bo’s Approach
- Work with water agencies to identify high-margin conservation opportunities
- Encourage local awareness of proven water conservation techniques such as rain harvesting, higher efficiency irrigation, and climate-appropriate landscaping choices
- Collaborate with water resource organizations to explore small- and large-scale water generation, recycling, and conservation options
Fire Protection
Government’s primary mission is to protect its citizens while allowing them to thrive. By far the greatest risk in our region is wildfires. For property owners, this manifests in high insurance premiums and the portion of local taxes allocated to fire prevention. A County-wide, smart, holistic focus on both prevention and mitigation is necessary and appropriate. The County Commission must consider capabilities within our cities, towns, Special Service Districts, and the entirety of Kane County. We cannot allow a failure of preparation to torch our future livelihood.
Qualifications on this Issue
- World leader in technical risk & opportunity management
- Expert in conducting threat surveys, root cause analysis, and Failure Mode, Effects, and Criticality Analysis (FMECA)
- MBA with experience in organizational behavior, team effectiveness, and accounting
Bo’s Approach
- Collaboratively engage local & regional agencies to address the gamut of fire associated risks, current capabilities, and strategic opportunities to enhance response
- Perform stress test analysis of resource allocation for both most-likely and worst-case scenarios
- Assure optimized allocation of existing tax revenue for maximal fire protection
Additional Priorities
Roads & Basic Infrastructure
Preventative maintenance benefits our community now and into the future. This is also the most cost-effective use of tax revenue, benefiting residents and businesses alike. By performing an analysis of public safety records, we can target infrastructure improvements to enhance safety and quality of life.
Land Use
Blessed with stunning geography and scenery, our responsibility of stewardship for these lands reigns supreme. Those who know it best deserve a say in its utilization.
Dogs
Dogs are good.
Growth
Preservation of our rural, small town identity requires a careful balance of “growth with integrity.” A significant portion of our tax revenue generates from the tourism sector, which in turn helps fund essential services and offsets local taxpayer burden.
